How to Register a Suppressor to a Trust

The first thing people hear about when they’re looking at buying an NFA item, such as a suppressor, is the ATF Form 4. The seems to cause a fair amount of stress as people worry over how they are going to fill out that dreaded form.

Well, the good news is that you don’t need to fill it out at all!

Basically, all you need to do is:

  1. Purchase a suppressor

  2. Pay for your $200 tax payment

  3. Email or fax us a copy of your trust (We need the entire document, including any schedules that are referenced - i.e. Schedule A, B, etc…)

Don’t have a trust? No problem! It typically only takes a few minutes to set it up yourself – or we have a list of excellent gun trust lawyers who can help!

Please don’t send the trust until AFTER you have place the order – we’ll email you instructions on how to get it to us right away. We’ll also keep it on file for future use once we receive it.

That’s it! Once we have your information, we’ll get it reviewed and filed with the ATF as fast as possible and will send you updates letting you know what’s going on. Once you get a confirmation that the NFA Branch has accepted the electronic Form 4, it’s time to sit back and wait. (Which is often the hardest part!)

For Texas customers, we can take care of all this automatically; but, non-Texas customers can also take advantage of our fast & easy process using Silencer Shop Direct!

As soon as your Form 4 transfer is approved, you’ll receive an email with a copy of the tax stamp as a PDF file. For Silencer Shop Direct customers, that email will also provide a reminder on where you can pick up the suppressor. Texas buyers, on the other hand, can either come pick it up or have us mail it directly to you.

As you can see, there really isn’t much to the process. Once you’ve been through it once, chances are you’ll do it again – especially after you see what a blast it is to shoot suppressed!

How to Register a Suppressor in Your Own Name

Depending on whether you live in Texas or not, the process will be slightly different. The main difference is that we’ll do the paperwork for Texas buyers, and non-Texas buyers will use an FFL/SOT holder in their state to handle the transfer and fill out the paperwork.

The first thing people hear about when they’re looking at buying an NFA item, such as a suppressor, is the ATF Form 4. The seems to cause a fair amount of stress as people worry over how they are going to fill out that dreaded form.

Well, the good news is that you don’t need to fill it out at all!

We, or your transfer dealer, will fill out two copies of this form for you after you register through your local S.I.D. Kiosk.

Signatures, fingerprints and personal information can be collected at the kiosk and you can download the handy Silencer Shop Mobile App to snap a selfie if you would rather not have to pay for a set of passport photos.

At this point, you get to practice waiting. For most people, the hardest part of buying a suppressor is having the patience to wait for that tax stamp to come back from the ATF.

The FFL/SOT holder who is handling the transfer will receive your tax stamp and will call you to come pick up your new toy!

As you can see, there really isn’t much to the process. Once you’ve been through it once, chances are you’ll do it again – especially after you see what a blast it is to shoot suppressed!
